PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Machine Learning (ML) describes algorithms that can learn from data without having to be explicitly programmed. Huge data sets, massive processing power and improved algorithms, especially deep learning, are already revolutionizing consumer applications. ML is going to take enterprise software to a new level, too.
A team of software engineers, researchers, designers and business developers located in Singapore, Potsdam, Walldorf, Ra'anana (Israel) and Palo Alto is working on Machine Learning at SAP. ML is strategic for SAP and we are committed to make all enterprise applications intelligent, eventually.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
As an Internship student or Master Thesis student, you’ll be working in a diverse world-class team of engineers and data scientists that is creating the SAP Leonardo Machine Learning Foundation. Your role will be to support the engineering team on development and tools around this platform.
Perform feasibility studies, technology evaluations and come up with prototypes
Work with the team and customers to understand business user requirements
Build platform services and tools to support efficient creation and delivery of machine learning services
Evaluation and recommendation of tools
Create excellence both in terms of results quality and system scalability through continuous evaluation, analysis, and refinement of the system implementation
Work in a diverse team applying Scrum and agile development
Collaborate with remote location teams
Performing quality assurance tasks
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Currently enrolled student at a university or university of applied sciences in computer science, engineering or equivalent education; we’re also open for Ph.D. students.
Proficiency in one or more of Java, Python, Go, Scala, Node.js, shell
Experience with or strong interest in cloud-based development using Kubernetes/Docker, Cloud Foundry, AWS, GCP, Azure and other container/IaaS technologies
Experience in REST API implementation
Hands-on experience in continuous integration and build tools like Jenkins, Travis CI
Experience with RDBMS & NoSQL databases
Good working knowledge of widespread software development tools such as git, github, nexus, maven etc.
Ability to work independently on given work packages
Excellent English language, communication and interpersonal skills
Previous experience extending large code bases, e.g. Open-source project involvement
Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools such as Chef, Puppet, Terraform, Vagrant, CloudFormation
Proficiency in handling of multi-terabyte datasets, such as with Spark or Hadoop
Experience with ML is a plus
