The Industry Standards and Open Source (ISOS) Team is part of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) business unit with focus on interoperability of SAP’s IoT solutions. Through standardization of data formats, protocols, API, interfaces, architectures, etc., ISOS helps drive simplicity in using SAP solutions along with other solutions, thereby reducing TCO for our customers and partners. In strategic areas like Cloud, Big Data and IoT, the team plays a pivotal role in defining a blue print for the overall business and technical solutions and driving interoperability and market adoption.

The ISOS team formulates, enhances and communicates the SAP strategy for open technologies, particularly in the area of open standards and open source software. The team runs a technology review process that governs the execution of targeted standards and open source engagements along the complete product lifecycle.

The ISOS team is part of the Strategy team within the Platform and Innovation (P&I) board area. A particular focus is on the alignment between SAP’s latest technology innovations around in-memory, IoT and cloud with key industry standards and open source technologies. This streamlines the utilization of external innovation, increases interoperability and portability of SAP technologies, allows our customers choice, protection of investments and reduced TCO even in heterogeneous environments and drives the adoption and acceptance of SAP solutions in the industry.


Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Support the syndication of an industry standard and open source strategy by working with the product development, product marketing and the corporate strategy groups.

  • Roll in relevant standards into development and support development in using them

  • Focus on connectivity and interoperability of SAP Leonardo Applications, especially applying OPC-UA, AutomationML and other relevant communication technologies

  • Aligning with the SAP IoT strategy, identify requirements and preferences for standards and develop recommendations for Open Standards projects to fill the existing gaps in Interoperability of SAP IoT solutions.

  • Drive standards related proposals and decisions as part of the ISOS governance processes by working with product groups as well as the legal and intellectual property groups.

  • Represent SAP in selected standards organizations and open source projects.

  • Support internal and external communities by publishing informational material, delivering presentations, supporting workshops, etc.


  • Knowledge of business models based on open innovation and successful open standards / open source industry projects

  • Expertise in automation and manufacturing area, deep knowledge in OPC UA, AML and other related technologies

  • Knowledge of SAP Applications, software architecture, especially Interface technologies, semantic modelling, communication protocols, etc.

  • Strong analytical skills as well as strong inter-personal and communication skills

  • Superior presentation skills – the ability to design and prepare high-impact presentations

  • Fluent in English and German

Required skills

We are looking for a candidate with good development background as an architect or product manager. Experience in a manufacturing environment would be apricated. It would be beneficial if the candidate has experience with standards or has worked in standardization organizations.

Preferred skills

Because this is a strategic position it would be of advantage if the applicant has some experience in company strategy, business development, strategic marketing, evangelism, and work in standardization/ industry consortia


At least 4 – 5 years of professional experience with extensive exposure to project-based work across company borders.
