PURPOSE and OBJECTIVE

As part of Global IT, IT Operations is SAP's Platform provider and responsible for running SAP’s critical business applications.

Within IT Operations, the service unit “Business Infrastructure Operations” (BIO) is responsible for 24x7 operations of important and critical SAP systems and applications embedded in an international delivery approach.

BIO runs all operating systems (Windows, Linux) and databases (HANA, ASE, MaxDB, DB2, MySQL and MariaDB) in physical and Multi-Cloud (internal and external) environment.

BIO works in close collaboration with SAP development and porting teams as a trusted partner to implement the latest and greatest product releases which serve as reference to SAP customers.

The teams are distributed globally and located in Germany, India and Mexico.

We are looking for a Linux Expert for BIO regional 3rd level server management team in Germany (St. Leon Rot or Dresden).

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

Operations are focused on high available infrastructure landscapes (server cluster, operating systems with support of storage systems).

  • Driving continuous improvement is one main lever to increase operation availability and efficiency.

  • Infrastructure landscape re-architecture and new technology adoption is another important part.

  • Global thinking and a strong customer focus are essential.

  • As Specialist, you are responsible for conceptual design, configuration and administration of server landscapes with focus on Linux Operating systems.

  • Drive innovation to optimize, automate and standardize the operational delivery processes

  • Managing the daily operations, ensure high availability.

  • Strong collaboration with other support teams within and outside IT Operations.

  • Strong alignment and close cooperation with internal customers and partners.

  • Excellent Communication skills and focused on transformation of customer satisfaction to customer delight.

  • OS Concepts on Security, Backup and recovery strategies, performance tuning, System copies, high availability and disaster recovery concepts, database replication, DNS and understanding of Network Topology.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Professional education or study in Information Technology or equivalent

  • Advanced technical background and administration experience for server operating systems (Linux SLES and/or RedHat)

  • Scripting experience (Perl, Shell, Bash, Ruby, Python) is must

  • Experience with automation tools like Chef, Ansible is must

  • Network Security and IT Security experience is must

  • Practical Work Experience on public cloud or private cloud like MS Azure, GCP or openstack is must

  • Server storage connectivity (SAN and NAS)

  • Be familiar with Incident handling and Change Management and Problem Management processes is must

  • Experience on large, non-homogeneous landscapes (> 1000 server)

  • Practical experience with Cluster & HA solutions (Pacemaker Linux HA, MS Cluster, HanaSR etc.) is plus

  • Knowledge on Container technology is plus

  • Related certifications are plus

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A total experience of minimum 5 years of which 3 years’ work experience in cloud infrastructure computing or server administration

  • Experience with virtual teams globally

  • ITIL Certified / experience in driving process governance model (Incident, Change and Problem mgmt.)

  • Knowledge of Cloud computing
