PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

Our key customers are in a process of continuous extension and adaption of their IT infrastructure and processes to serve new business needs, while at the same time reducing risk and cost. Key questions are how new innovations from SAP can enable customers to build a future-proof “digital core” around SAP S/4HANA leveraging the SAP HANA Platform and cloud solutions while still fitting into the current IT solution and how to manage the transition effectively.

SAP Digital Business Services endeavors to accompany and support these customers proactively. In the framework of planning complex transition tasks, the task of the IT Planning architects is to provide strategic guidance in conceptual and architectural questions typical for an IT transformation. In parallel, this experience must be productized and rolled out into the broader service delivery organization. Therefore, the team builds and manages core parts of the SAP service portfolio and develops best practices with special focus on new, innovative solutions from SAP, with emphasis on enabling scalability within the SAP service organization.

As a frontrunner the team is constantly requested to analyze new trends and assess how they can be turned into assets for broader service delivery. This means IT Planning global team creates the service content that regional teams use to work with. At the same time our content needs to be validated based on customer deliveries. We closely work with regional team to share knowledge, coach and co-deliver.

The IT Planning team consists of (senior) architects who work as a team and independently as needed. As a global team they support the regional service delivery teams with knowledge and know-how.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

To give you examples, the technical architecture sub-team of the IT Planning team or individuals of the team were responsible for the following assets this year:

  • Created a delivery suitcase for technical architecture and infrastructure planning for SAP HANA (e.g. sizing projection, server hardware assessment, storage planning, concepts for HA/DR, backup and restore)

  • Created service delivery contents for hybrid cloud scenarios which included, in addition to the above, aspects of security and software change management in the cloud.

  • Created service delivery contents technical architecture for hybris commerce.

The expected tasks of the Service Architect IT Planning will include:

  • Ensuring that the SAP service technical architecture and infrastructure portfolio helps customers to safely transition to innovative solutions from SAP, fitting best to their needs.

  • Working on strategic projects with select customers and turning this experience into service assets in the form of delivery suitcase material and best practice documents.

  • Creating or maintaining an already strong working relationship with development to understand new developments and mutual feedback.

  • Creating or maintaining an already strong network into the support organization to further scale service delivery and constantly seek to improve the quality of service delivery.

In addition, some of the daily tasks will include:

  • Creating and updating knowledge products for service delivery

  • Explaining concepts of technical architecture and infrastructure to people of different technical backgrounds

  • Understanding new trends and assessing their relevance for SAP’s digital core service portfolio

  • Leading others to create good quality assets without power

  • Listen actively to customer/colleague needs and making themselves listened to

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

This role describes a senior position, requiring conceptual skills and the ability to turn one’s own learning into learning experience for others, be they colleagues or customers.

Required skills:

  • Knowledge in the following areas:

  • Technical architecture

  • Performance/scalability/capacity evaluation

  • Datacenter readiness

  • Operations

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to structure and document methodologies and best practices (whitepapers, presentations) in English

  • Fluency in English

Preferred skills

  • Strong background in the main SAP technology platforms like SAP NetWeaver and SAP HANA

  • Background in IT infrastructure topics like server, storage and networks

  • Background in emerging new solutions like Big Data / Internet of Things and SAP Cloud solutions is a plus

  • Knowledge in software change strategies and solution landscape design is a plus

  • Knowledge in the technical architectures of SAP non-NetWeaver platforms is a plus

  • Good knowledge in operating SAP systems is a plus

  • Good ability to visualize complex contents is a plus

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in working on SAP based architectures & general IT technology strategies for 5-10 years

  • Experience in working with large customers is a plus

  • Experience in leading in projects and in governance of multiple parallel projects is a plus

  • Experience in building and leading a high-caliber team
