Cloud Infrastructure Services (CIS) is responsible for running SAP’s backend technology including operations of state-of-the-art data centers and the technical platforms as integral part and foundation for all SAP Cloud solutions and services around the globe.

The Cloud Infrastructure Services unit provides these shared services for SAP’s external Cloud Business and for SAP’s internal infrastructure such as development, training, or demo landscapes. Within CIS the department of Cloud Management Infrastructure department operates various monitoring solutions around the globe but is also responsible to collect various data points on which basis we create various reports, analysis and dashboards for up to SAP Board level.


As a team member of the CMI team you’ll take over responsibilities around the products Octobus (monitoring infrastructure, which is based on ELK-stack (ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana) and Apache Kafka), the OS-Monitoring, which is based on Nagios/Naemon/vrOps and the Hardware-Monitoring (including automation with Powershell and REST APIs).

  • Work as part of a virtual team and drive topics from an Infrastructure Automation and Operations perspective

  • Automation focusses on pipeline-based deployment of software components and infrastructure automation including containerization, infrastructure-as-code and adopting CD/CI based workflows

  • Operations includes self-monitoring, self-maintaining solutions, documentation of standard operating procedures and continuous improvement based on problems

  • Cross collaboration in IT/with other operation teams to understand support colleagues, customers, management and processes by providing them with valuable analysis around infrastructure status, monitoring event, automation and self-healing.

  • Be part of a virtual SCRUM team, working on backlogs of multiple components and tools

  • Documentation of work items and training of team-members and other involved parties

  • Be open for compensated on-call duty and planned night/weekend activities


Required skills:

  • University degree or similar education in Software Engineering or Computer Science

  • Knowledge in the ELK-Stack as well as Kafka

  • Strong in Linux Operating System & Containers (ideally Docker, Kubernetes & Helm)

  • Knowledge and experience in cloud-native principals, cloud development & automation, including API’s, REST, OpenStack, Ansible, Continuous Delivery, Scripting, Github, etc.

  • Ability to structure topics, multi-task and work under tight deadlines

  • Strong communication (written and verbal English & German), presentation and analytical skills

  • DevOps and agile method skills and experience (e.g. SCRUM, Kanban)

Preferred skills:

  • Infrastructure operations in large scale, heterogeneous SAP or cloud environments.

  • Technical expertise in related technologies such as Hadoop, HANA Vora, Splunk, etc.

  • Knowledge of ITIL V3 will be highly beneficial.

  • Awareness of the principle of object-oriented programming.
