You will be a key player in SAP Concur’s continuing, successful software transformation to a true Services-Oriented Architecture running in a public cloud infrastructure. Along with your counterparts in the Technology organization, you define the rules, boundaries, best practices, and edge cases that enable hundreds of developers on Agile teams to do their best work. You own the outputs of your decisions with the full endorsement of the SVP, Development. You also champion security and compliance as part of our core software architecture. In the first 12 months you will deliver:

  • The fundamental rules and assumptions for API creation and consumption at SAP Concur: along with Architects delivering services, you will define how those services are to be consumed across our web, mobile, and developer platforms.

  • Frameworks, integration points, and tools/abstractions for consumption by development teams.

  • Processes and checkpoints, enforced in our SDLC, to enable your architecture vision.

  • Technical strategies for API clients enabling code reuse, code isolation, CI/CD techniques, and business modeling.

  • Mentorship for developers throughout the organization.

In order to accomplish this you will need to:

  • Have a deep understanding of systems architecture

  • Have excellent collaboration skills, including when to push hard with others and when to accept decisions from others.

  • Be conversent with the latest technologies for web and mobile UI, data shaping technologies, and service mesh technologies.

  • Have an understanding and hands-on experience running software in a public cloud infrastructure.

  • Have proven experience solving difficult software design challenges involving a system at scale.

  • Understand security and compliance constraints with experience implementing key controls through software and process.

What do you need to bring?

  • BSCS, BSEE, or equivalent years of work experience.

  • 10 years in a technical related field.

  • Effective communication skills, focusing on presentation of technical information.

  • Advanced knowledge of software design and development process.

  • Knowledge of the web- and mobile-specific technologies, and limitations capabilities of these technologies.

  • Leadership skills to mentor team members

  • Experience with services and SOA

  • Demonstrated knowledge of software tools, documentation process, and development process.

  • Broad knowledge of QA processes.

  • Broad knowledge of requirements gathering

  • Awareness of business issues and their impact on product development.

  • Exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining solutions.

  • Advanced knowledge in Unix based systems

  • Experience with Git or a similar version control system

  • Willingness to learn new technologies fast (AWS, puppet, ElasticSearch, …)

  • Flexibility/Tolerance to change in tasks

  • Interest in full Stack development (programming, research, deployment, automation, testing, …)
