(Senior) Developer for Compliance Engineer role

As market leader in enterprise application software, SAP helps companies of all sizes and industries run better. From back office to boardroom, warehouse to storefront, desktop to mobile device – SAP empowers people and organizations to work together more efficiently and use business insight more effectively to stay ahead of the competition.

Usage of Open Source Software is increasing rapidly at SAP. We are looking for a developer who is up for new challenges and changing her/his work focus to become a legal compliance engineer to help managing the risks which come along with open source. The individual will be managing and controlling open source and commercial 3rd party software intake across SAP’s software engineering groups by executing code audits using our source code scanning technologies and then following up on the results. This is a very important role at SAP as it requires making important decisions and making the risks transparent to senior management. In addition, you will help to automate our processes to make the compliance analysis less resource intensive. Finally, the role requires a genuine interest in software licensing topics.

• Review and understand SAP’s open source software policy and tool set as well as the expectations for IP compliance.

• Execute SAP’s comprehensive Technical and Legal Compliance governance processes across global development groups, protecting SAP from license violations, intellectual property exposure and related issues.

• Executing Code Audits using software composition analysis (SCA) tools. Apply a risk rating and discuss the results with engineering teams.

• Direct remediation activities as required. Align with all relevant stakeholders such as Product Owner, Global Legal and Global IP.

• Participate in the development and improvement of our own framework for automated source code scanning. This leaves plenty of opportunity to engage in software development projects in various programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Ruby, Groovy, PHP, Perl, and others).

• Participate in the continuous improvement of processes necessary to deploy intellectual property audits across SAP Group businesses.

• Lead change management projects, introduce & roll-out new auditing tools, which improve the efficiency of our team.

• Engage effectively with internal and external clients across functions, organizations and regions.

• Strive for operational excellence and continuous (process) optimization incl. knowledge management.

Required skills

• Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or other technical discipline or equivalent education

• “Fluent” in reading and coding of at least one mainstream programming language (Java, C/C /C#, Python, or similar)

• Good knowledge of popular Open Source Software (relevant to your programming language expertise)

• Business English: fluent

Preferred skills

• Have a genuine interest in expanding their career and experience into the areas of development governance and compliance, particularly as it relates to legal compliance and intellectual property.

• Knowledge of open source and commercial software licensing terms is a big plus.

• 5 years of development or QA/testing experience in Java, C/C /C# or any other mainstream programming language.

• Further deep experience with Ruby and/or JavaScript highly desired.

• Experience with Software Composition Auditing tools (BlackDuck, Palamida, Sonatype, WhiteSource,…)
