P&I Tools is a global product design and development team creating the next generation of tools for internal and external customers. We work with a wide range of teams throughout the world, to support enterprise scale innovation.

The team is responsible for developing and operating (DevOps) an application for product master data management called PPMS (Product and Production Management System). PPMS is used to manage SAP’s products, components and how they relate to each other. More than 75 applications at SAP or customer side consume PPMS information. With PPMSLight, the team also owns a simplified, HTML5-based web interface for occasional users. PPMS has a comprehensive architecture based on object-oriented ABAP, SAP HANA, Angular and runs on SAP NetWeaver 7.50.

We are looking for an application developer and junior architect for our team at SAP in Walldorf, Germany. You will be part of a co-located, cross-functional scrum team – consisting of developers, UX designers and product owners.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

Your Area of Operation:

  • You will design and implement products from conception through multiple releases. You can evolve and iterate a product over time.

  • You will be involved in all phases of the lifecycle of our products – from idea generation over development and testing up to operations and support (with focus on development).

  • Depending on your experience, you will take over responsibility for the architecture of the application or parts of it, and be able to influence their future direction.

  • You will discover and learn a wide range of technologies and products, e.g. SAP Hana, Angular, etc.

  • You will collaborate with a fun, supportive and highly talented team of product owners, designers, and engineers

  • We take our products, their user experience and quality seriously, but we do not take ourselves too seriously.

  • We are always striving to improve. We are a team that loves to keep learning and getting better at what we do.

The team uses agile development methodologies and works in scrum mode.

You are also entitled to participate in our unit-wide research initiative that reserves up to 10% of our time for research & innovation, as well as our “Internal Crowdfunding” program – an initiative that allows you to submit ideas beyond your current team scope and participate in the realization.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Required skills

  • Degree in computer science, natural sciences, mathematics or related field from university, university of applied sciences or similar level (Also welcome: IT specialist application development / “Fachinformatiker Anwendungsentwicklung”)

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability and motivation to deal with complexity

  • Profound knowledge of object-oriented programming (at least 3 years of professional experience)

  • Experience with database development, e.g. SAP Hana

  • Quality Focus

  • Good communication skills

  • Curiosity towards new technology

  • Very good team player with goal-oriented working style

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)

Preferred skills

  • Ability to analyze a technical problem and to design, visualize and discuss a proposed concept of a possible solution

  • Experience with ABAP OO is beneficial, but not required

  • Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, HTML5 and CSS is beneficial, but not required

  • Experience with SCRUM or Kanban working style

  • Proficient in German (written and spoken)
