Summary Job Description

  • This is a role for a highly respected and senior resource with strong product knowledge and deep implementation experience, capable of designing, driving and rationalising solutions to support customer outcomes (principal consultant / solution architect ideal).

  • The Services Solutioning Architect (SSA) role is focused on supporting service sales opportunities in cooperation with the Bid Management team and Client Partners. The Services Solutioning Architects form the local market unit Solutioning Centre team.

  • The Solutioning Centre team is a market unit based team, reporting to local MU Head of Mission Control Centre, with a dotted reporting line regionally to the APJ Solutioning Centre Manager(s) who will manage the function across the region, allowing rollout of common processes and tools, communication and driving of regional and global requirements and strategy, and a forum for regional knowledge share, activity reporting and additional skills and capability support.

  • This Solutioning Centre team, and thus the Service Solutioning Architects that make it up, have ultimate responsibility for the solution response to customer proposals and opportunities.

  • The Service Solutioning Architect role is a dedicated solutioning role whose primary responsibility is supporting and orchestrating the development and response to customer opportunities. If there is capacity within the team, some billable activities may be undertaken such as short term expert on demand, expert advisory services, quality assurance checks or project kick-off and handover, however they are not available for full time project engagements. These should only be undertaken on a limited and part time basis at most.

Job Responsibilities

  • Orchestrate the overall solution to meet the customer requirements, addressing solution and implementation approach, completing effort and cost estimates for the proposed solution leveraging and coordinating input from other Solutioning team members and subject matter experts as required. Formulate the solution details including timelines, approach, scope, risks and assumptions. Take into account various delivery options considering, scope, cost, quality and risk.

  • Act as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the collation and overall design of the solution bid response for a customer opportunity as the Solutioning Lead. Actively drive effort estimates from other contributors, either within the team or from other subject matter experts in relevant lines of service and delivery units within SAP.

  • Design the most competitive and profitable solution, aligned with the SAP Services Strategy, with the lowest possible risk (including risk mitigation plan). The SSA is expected to be able to design, drive and communicate the rationale of the solution designed to support customer outcomes (scope, approach and value proposition).

  • Provide input to the services sales strategy for each opportunity, acting as part of the overall bid team.

  • Liaise and coordinate with other knowledgeable resources including Delivery, Practice Leads, other MU Solutioning Team members, Lines of Service and Industry experts as necessary to ensure delivery feasibility.

  • Engage with Global Delivery (SDC) as necessary where they are engaged to support the bid response.

  • Willingness to extend knowledge to other solution areas to a level satisfactory to support initial service solutioning for opportunities.

  • Ensure the effective positioning and usage of relevant Service Portfolio items in the solution. Understand the RDS and Engineered Services available in your area of functional expertise, extending to newly released services as they become available. Utilise the relevant groups and tools that support the identification of potential RDS’s that may be utilised in the solution, including the Portfolio Sales Centre (PSC) team and the Solutioning Cockpit tool (enablement will be provided).

  • Identification, scoping and mapping of PDS and RDS services in your areas of solution expertise to customer requirements. Engage with the PSC and other delivery SME’s for further support in mapping these services where knowledge does not exist within the local team.

  • Understand the Advanced Delivery Model (ADM) and Assemble to Order approach, strategy and methodology, and be able or construct a solution according to the A2O principles and training. Represent the ADM / A2O methodology as required to third parties such as the external market and customers.

  • Support and reflect relevant regional and global services strategies into the services deals constructed, such as driving increases in remote share and use of the Pre-assembly service for RDS’s. Requirements such as these will change over time, year to year.

  • Responsible for contribution of services solution content to the proposal response, including reviewing, writing, or editing, aligned with the proposal win themes. As the Services Solutioning Architect of the solution the Bid and Proposal team will rely upon you to provide content for the proposal regarding the solution proposal developed. You will work with the subject matter experts to provide and collate this material

  • Proactively identify opportunities for the cross selling of services including CDP, Education, Premium Engagement (PE) services and SAP Managed Services (SMS), and engage relevant SSEM’s as appropriate.

  • Use of relevant tools and templates required including the capture of accurate data required for essential KPI reporting.

  • Able, where relevant, to undertake short term (days) billable/chargeable expert services engagements (such as QA service reviews, Expert on Demand, expert advisory to projects as required or limited part time).

  • Communication and handover of the solution design to the project delivery team, supporting the initial stage of project execution. In the early stages of a project this may include an active coaching role to the consultants regarding the proposed approach and solution.

  • Assessment of project data at project completion and through comparison to proposal data determine lessons learned and refinement to be included in future solution proposal (closed loop for continuous improvement). Completion of internal project reference material for uses in future proposals.

  • Participate in and support regional Solutioning community (knowledge share and KM contributions).

  • Use and grow your SAP contact network to aid the execution of role responsibilities and outcomes.


  • Team members should be highly experienced and senior consultants with at least 8 years implementation experience and have fully participated in multiple full cycle implementations. A thorough understanding of ASAP methodologies is necessary.

  • Team members should have thorough understanding of RDS and A2O approaches.

  • Team members should have significant experience in project estimation methodologies.

  • Team members should have significant exposure to the services sales process, and have been involved in a number of successful services sales campaigns.

  • Ideally the SSA should have deep experience in more than one functional solution area, with some broader knowledge of some other solution suite areas. (Eg. A finance resource may know FI, CO, FSCM and may have some knowledge of Treasury and Financial Asset Management).
