Project Manager Job Description

DESCRIPTION

The Project Manager at SAP Solution Delivery Center (SDC), part of SAP Digital Business Services, is responsible for the overall management of projects, focused on SAP solutions, throughout their lifecycle. The Project Manager provides leadership to cross-functional teams responsible for delivering defined project outcome in the context of scope, time, budget and quality criteria, using project management and solution implementation methodology practice and tools. The role would require coordination of work between various SAP and non-SAP parties like third party sub-contractors, SAP Consulting at sourcing country, and other SAP solution delivery related organizations. The Project Manager may also be required to assist during the Opportunity Management Phase of the customer engagement by providing input into the proposal or completing specific proposal deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivery

  • Conduct project planning activities and manage the execution of projects per plan through the project life cycle from Initiating to close.

  • Manage relationship with project stakeholders, internal and external, keeping stakeholders informed of progress, and manage expectations on all project requirements and deliverables to enable positive customer reference and success story.

  • Communicate a clear vision of the project’s objectives, and motivate the project team to achieve them; create a project environment that enables peak performance by team members.

  • Ensure proper governance is in place to best meet project objectives, ensure use of best practices, methodology, tools and procedures and balance the trade-off of the triple- constraint (time, cost and scope) to realize the expected business value.

  • Proactively identify changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with stakeholders to reassess and amend the scope of work, budget and timeline.

  • Manage the financial aspects of the project: budgeting and estimate to actual variance.

  • Proactively identify risk and issues on the project, establish mitigating actions, escalate issues and risks where needed, and seek resolutions.

  • Plan and execute formal Quality Gate process, and following the Q-Gate approach in SAP’s project implementation methodology.

  • Determine what constitutes successful closure for all parties, gain acceptance and sign-off by all parties when closure is attained.

Opportunity Management

  • Provide input to bid management team to help scope and estimate the engagement and determine required resources for the project

  • Assess, document and communicate risk for the engagement

Coaching & Mentoring

  • Mentor project teams to ensure implementation of methodology, standards and processes.

  • Coach to clarify deliverables to project team; review quality of work, manage integration of team members’ work; provide performance input to project team members’ functional management.

Knowledge Management

  • Maintain project documentation and updates to relevant knowledge management bases; analyze lessons learned and share with the organization’s project management community.

  • Participate in the development of project management best practices.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • In-depth understanding of SAP solutions and of the consulting business processes and functions.

  • Proficiency with project management methodology, tools and processes including planning tasks, resource allocation, risk management, time management, financial management, HR management, quality management, monitoring and reporting, documenting and record keeping.

  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change.

  • Ability to negotiate consensus amongst diverse groups and impact the activities of others not in own reporting structure.

  • Conceptual analytical thinking and decision making skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience; competence in clear concise and tactful communication with senior management, clients, peers and team members.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum graduate degree in Commerce, Engineering, or Information Technologies, with professional qualifications such as Chartered Accounting or MBA an asset

  • PMP certification and /or other industry and project management certifications

  • Knowledge of PM methodology, SAP Activate methodology, and Agile/Scrum methodologies

Functional and Technical Experience

  • 10 years’ relevant enterprise software solution implementation experience, with 5 years of project management experience in large scale, high risk, or strategic projects, involving SAP technology

  • Demonstrated experience leading cross functional teams within a formalized methodology.

  • Expertise in creating and maintaining project deliverables such as: project charter, project management plan, status reports, project timesheets, communications plan, budget and schedule.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing issues, scope and quality while bring projects to successful completion within the cost and time requirements.

  • International implementation experience with Multinational Companies is a plus

Management and Leadership Experience

  • Experience in team building and managing small to medium size teams or organizations

  • Management of remote resources (global delivery or distributed organization) is a plus

  • P&L of LoB in small to medium size organization is desirable

  • Cultural awareness and experience working across different cultures and nationalities

  • Leadership and people management skills, and leading in matrix organization without formal authority is a plus

MOBILITY

  • Willingness to work on Short to Long term projects at customer locations globally
